People sometimes ask writers where they come up with the ideas for their stories. In fact it is a pretty common question.
I know writers who are wonderful wordsmiths but they struggle for story ideas and I know other writers like me who have so many ideas and not enough time and motivation to get the ideas down on the page.
The idea for A Fresh Start came when I saw the character of Susannah driving out of Sydney, heading south down the New South Wales coast to a new life. A young mother and a small child looking for a fresh start. Susannah is a character who grew up very much alone and so for her a new beginning would mean a place she and her daughter could belong. That place turned out to be Henley's Bluff.
Of course when you set off on an adventure things go wrong, plans get derailed and life intervenes. That's exactly what happens to Susannah and her daughter Maisy. No matter how independent you are and how determined to do things all by yourself sometimes you need help and you might just find it in the most unlikely places. For Susannah help comes in the form of Declan Doherty.
And I'm not giving the rest of the story away.
The second book in the series focuses on Polly and Fintan. Theirs is a story about the heartbreak of first love. I adore Fintan's character in the novel and I pictured him first. He's a surfer who has a decision to make about his future. He has a reputation as a dare-devil and a player but deep down he's a truly great guy. Still he wasn't always that way and he didn't treat Polly all that well when they parted ways so now he has to make amends. You'll get to read their story soon.
Meanwhile don't forget to read A Fresh Start.
